About The Artist

Sarcastic Shark Artist Sean Nelms And His Wife Lisa

Hello everyone! My name is Sean Nelms and this website is to showcase various forms of my artwork. My wife Lisa and I are empty nesters and live in Gilbert, AZ with our two dogs Thelma and Louise.
My interest in the ocean (and more specifically sharks) came about at the young age of 6 when my father took me to see Jaws at the movie theater. Instead of being scared, I felt a sense of wonder! I read every shark book I could get my hands on.
I went to ASU on an art scholarship, but ended up graduating with a degree in Industrial Design. While in that program, I learned a particular style (meant for product presentation) that I began to apply to shark illustration.
I began scuba diving in 1994 and became a divemaster in 1996. While working for a dive company, I was able to see the creatures I was so amazed with up close! Soon after, I began going on specific shark trips and even got to dive with the great whites at Isla Guadalupe in 2007.
I started working for a stone supplier out of college and started my own custom stone business in 2000. My artwork took a back seat to making a living.
Fast forward to 2020 and the pandemic. The time at home had me thinking more about art and I soon began to produce new pieces and trying new mediums.
With an abundance of help from my wife Lisa, I began selling prints and stickers on Etsy in 2022 under the Sarcastic Shark title. Why that name? Simply my own type of humor combined with my favorite subject matter.
Etsy was alright, but my gut was telling me it wasn't the right forum for me. So, here we are. Currently on the website, we have originals, high quality prints and stickers available and soon hope to have even more.
I hope you enjoy my artistic vision and please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
